2. Don't smoke

Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow and makes skin paler. This also depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health.

Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — the fibers that give your skin strength and elasticity. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking — such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke — can contribute to wrinkles.

FOODS FOR YOUR SKIN CARE


1.Eggs

Eggs offer up a hefty dose of protein without tons of fat, and less fat is a good thing for your skin: Higher fat diets are associated with aging skin. According to a study, a 17-gram increase in fat intake increased your odds of developing wrinkles by 28%.


2.Pumpkin

Cooked pumpkin is one of the top sources of beta-carotene. The body converts beta-carotene into vitamin A (a half cup of cooked pumpkin packs nearly 400% of your daily value for A), which is essential for the growth of skin cells. 3.Red wine

When Australian researchers analyzed the diets of more than 1,000 adults, they discovered that the rate of actinic keratoses (skin lesions caused by long-term sun damage) was reduced by 28% in those that sipped a half glass of red wine a day. Red wine is a top source of resveratrol, an antioxidant compound with anti-tumor properties.


4.Sunflower seeds

With 37% of your daily needs for vitamin E per ounce, these seeds can help keep your skin pimple-free. That’s according to a study published in Experimental Dermatology that looked at 100 patients recently diagnosed with acne. Researchers found that those suffering from severe acne had nearly 30% lower blood levels of vitamin E compared to a clear-skinned control group. Vitamin E is thought to enhance immune function, allowing the body to fight off the inflammation that leads to acne.


5.Carrots

Who needs blush? Filling up on carrots can give you a natural glow. A  study found that people who eat a higher amount of carotenoid-containing fruits and vegetables, like carrots, have more yellow tones in their skin, giving them a complexion that others rated as looking healthier.

6.Citrus fruits 

People who reported that they ate citrus fruits, juices, and peels weekly. People who ate peels (orange peel or lemon zest, for example) had a 33% decreased risk for squamous cell carcinoma. Juice and fruit didn’t have any effect. The researchers credit limonene, a compound found in the oil in the peels that offers the UV-protective benefits.


7.Rosemary

Consuming four or more herbs regularly—rosemary or thyme, for example—was associated with up to a 60% reduced risk of melanoma, finds a study in the,International Journal of Epidemiology. Herbs pack a ton of antioxidants into a tiny skin-protecting package, squelching free radicals from the sun before they can damage skin.


8.Almond milk

This makes the list because of what it’s not: dairy. Research shows dairy is highly inflammatory, which means it will aggravate acne, wrinkles, and rashes. When you drink coffee or pour a bowl of whole grain cereal, she recommends using a non-dairy milk, like unsweetened almond milk.

Everyone wants a happy, healthy baby, however, babies often experience discomfort from diaper rash – a condition that causes skin underneath the diaper to become red and tender. Help your baby by following dermatologists’ tips to prevent and treat diaper rash at home:

Change dirty diapers as soon as possible. The most important tip for treating and preventing diaper rash is to change all dirty diapers – even if they are just wet – as soon as possible. This reduces moisture on the skin that can inflame a rash.Be gentle when cleaning the diaper area. Use water and a soft washcloth or baby wipes that are alcohol and fragrance-free. If the rash is severe, use a squirt bottle of water to clean the area, as doing so is gentler to the skin. Next, allow the area to air dry. Let your child go diaper-free as long as possible to let the skin dry and heal.Apply a zinc oxide diaper cream. This is especially important if the skin stays red between diaper changes. If your baby has severe diaper rash, layer it on like you are frosting a cake. There is no need to remove the cream with each diaper change. It can be fully removed at the end of the day.Call a doctor or board-certified dermatologist if your baby develops signs of a skin infection. Signs of a skin infection may include a fever, blisters, pus that drains from the rash, and a rash that does not go away after treatment or worsens.  What is cellulitis?

Cellulitis is a common and potentially serious infection caused by bacteria. The bacteria infect the deep layers of skin and tissue beneath the skin.

The first sign of cellulitis is usually red and swollen skin. When you touch the infected area, it often feels warm and tender.

This infection can show up anywhere on the skin. Adults often get it in a lower leg. In children, cellulitis tends to appear on the face or neck.

While cellulitis often develops in a leg, redness and swelling in both legs usually means you have another condition. You could have stasis dermatitis or contact dermatitis.

If you think you have cellulitis, you should get immediate medical care. Caught early and treated, cellulitis usually clears completely without causing any long-term problems.

Without treatment, the infection can spread quickly. The bacteria may travel to lymph nodes and into the bloodstream. This can lead to a blood infection or permanently damage lymph vessels, which are part of your immune system. Other complications can also develop.

When treated before complications occur, most people recover fully. Caught early, your doctor can treat it with oral (take by mouth) antibiotics and good wound care.

After starting treatment for cellulitis, you should notice improvement in 24 to 48 hours. If you don’t, call your doctor’s office. Severe cellulitis may require you to be treated in a hospital.


Rosacea

Rosacea is a common skin disease. It often begins with a tendency to blush or flush more easily than other people.

The redness can slowly spread beyond the nose and cheeks to the forehead and chin. Even the ears, chest, and back can be red all the time.

Rosacea can cause more than redness. There are so many signs and symptoms that rosacea has four subtypes:

Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea: Redness, flushing, visible blood vessels.Papulopustular rosacea: Redness, swelling, and acne-like breakouts.Phymatous rosacea: Skin thickens and has a bumpy texture.Ocular rosacea: Eyes red and irritated, eyelids can be swollen, and person may have what looks like a sty.

With time, people who have rosacea often see permanent redness in the center of their face.

Acne

The common raised bumps on the skin known as warts are actually caused by thehuman papillomavirus (HPV). Warts are contagious, and can appear on any part of the body.

Common warts typically grow on the hands, feet, and joints, though they can appear anywhere. They often go away on their own, though unsightly warts can be treated with liquid nitrogen or medicated creams.

Fungal nail infection

A condition in which fungus lives near, under, and around the nails, usually in the feet. The fungal buildup causes the nail's edges to crumble away, producing white-yellowish scaling and flaking on the surface of the nails.

Treatment is usually an anti-fungal cream or other fungal treatment.

Cold sore

A cold sore is a red, fluid-filled blister usually found near the mouth. The sore itself is painful or delicate. Other symptoms include itching or burning sensations on the site before the sore is visible.

Cold sores are caused by the herpessimplex virus, and there is no known cure for the virus. The sores may return and last for up to 2 weeks. Medical treatment includes creams and medications.

Candidiasis

The overgrowth of the Candida albicansfungus on the body is called Candidiasis. This causes irritated patches of skin, usually found in the armpits, groin, or under folds of skin such, as the knee.
Candidiasis can usually be prevented with home remedies, proper hygiene, and avoiding the overuse of antibiotics.

Athlete's foot

A rash caused by a fungus that rapidly multiplies in warm, damp conditions, such as athletic shoes. Symptoms include dry, itchy, red skin. The skin between the toes or under the foot may be soggy, white, cracked, or scaly. It often itches and causes soreness.

The problem usually arises quickly. Athlete's foot is treated with medicated ointments and good foot hygiene


Carbuncle

When Staphylococcus aureus bacteria make their way into the hair follicles and cause an infection, a carbuncle is produced. This is a red, irritated lump underneath the skin.

Carbuncles can be nearly any size, and the lump quickly fills with pus and becomes swollen. Other symptoms include tiredness, itching on the site of the lump, and fever.

Carbuncles are treated with antibiotics, drainage, and antibacterial washes. Carbuncles usually respond well to medical treatment.

Cellulitis

A bacterial infection in the deeper layers of the skin, which develops quickly and can spread rapidly throughout the body.

An area of the skin may become red and swollen, and feel hot, painful, and tender to the touch. It is most common in the legs, but can occur everywhere.

Severe infections may be life-threatening. Most cases are treated with antibiotics.

Age-related conditions

There is a wide range of skin diseases and they can affect people of all ages.

In children

Measles mostly affects children and pregnant women, and symptoms may be a brown or red rash.

Hemangiomas

Hemangiomas are most common on the neck, head, or face of infants. They begin as small red scratches or bumps which eventually begin to bulge out and turn into large growths.

Although hemangiomas are easily discovered on the skin, they can actually be found on various organs of the body, and are commonly discovered on the liver. They usually disappear on their own by the age of 10, though some may need removal.

Measles

A highly infectious airborne viral illness. Children and pregnant women are most vulnerable to the illness, but it can happen to anyone.

One symptom of measles is a red or brown rash that spreads down the body. Other symptoms include fever, runny eyes and nose, cough, and small reddish spots inside the mouth. Measles tend to go away after 7-10 days, but symptoms may still be treated.

Impetigo

A common and contagious infection of the skin. It is one of the most common skin infections in young children and usually causes itchy sores and blisters to appear around the mouth and face.

These sores then burst and leave a crust. This crust then dries out and leaves a red mark that fades without scarring.

The whole process usually takes 3 weeks without treatment. With treatment, the process is reduced to 1 week.

Dermatomyositis

Dermatomyositis is a rare inflammatory skin disease most common in children ages 5 to 15 and adults between 40 and 60.

Common symptoms include a red-to-purple rash on the chest, face, nails, or elbows, as well as muscle weakness and swelling. There is no cure for dermatomyositis, but treatments aim to manage symptoms.

In adults

Shingles (herpes zoster)

Shingles is caused by the return of the infection that causes chickenpox. It most commonly occurs in the elderly, but can affect anyone.

It starts with a painful sensation in the body and is followed within 2 days by a reddish, blistering rash that is widespread on the surrounding skin.

Antiviral treatment within the first 48 hours after the eruption can help limit the pain. Vaccines are said to help prevent shingles.

Seborrheic keratoses

These are harmless bumps that commonly show up on people as they age. They may appear as black, dark brown, or sometimes yellow bumpy patches of skin that can look like they are stuck to the skin.

Seborrheic keratoses are sometimes confused with skin cancers, though they themselves have no medical significance. Any spots that doctors are uncertain about should be tested.

Age spots

Age spots or liver spots are flat spots on the skin with more pigment than the surrounding area. This may be caused by prolonged exposure to the sun over the years.

These spots cause no symptoms themselves, but most patients do not like their appearance. They can be treated in a variety of ways, but medical treatment is not necessary.
